Security forces secured and destroyed several camps used by members of a criminal group in Zacatecas, and firearms were seized. The events took place in the municipality of Villanueva, where the officers were attacked.
It should be noted that some of the seized material bore the letters CJNG, commonly used by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, as seen in material published by authorities on January 4.
The State Security Secretariat detailed that Army personnel, along with the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ) and the National Guard, went to the community of Junta de los Ríos.
Agents from all three levels of government conducted an operation in the area following an attack against them, in which no one (neither civilians nor security personnel) was injured.
However, 12 observation points used by a criminal group were located at the site. These points were concealed with camouflage, rocks, and branches.
As a result of the operation, the following items were also seized:
20 magazines of various calibers
490 rounds of ammunition
26 grenades
Two sand-colored camouflage ballistic vests
An image shared by the Spokesperson for the State Peace and Security Roundtable shows that the vests bear the letters CJNG.
The National Guard also reported on its activities in Zacatecas. The institution reported the location and destruction of 15 camps used by a criminal group.
The institution’s report adds that security personnel were conducting patrols in the town of La Encarnación, the site of the attack from which the assailants fled.
In addition to the information provided by state authorities, the National Guard indicates that 17 improvised explosive devices, nine grenades, and four ballistic plates were seized.
Just last December 23, it was reported that a group of armed individuals clashed with agents of the State Preventive Police after attempting to use a school as a makeshift camp.
As a result, two officers were wounded during the exchange of fire with the attackers, who then fled from the community of Tierra Blanca, in the municipality of Loreto, toward Aguascalientes.
Following the attack, the wounded officers received specialized medical attention and were reported to be in stable condition and out of danger, according to the State Peacebuilding Roundtable’s official channels.
