In addition to the vibrant music scene and the unique tourism that can be enjoyed at sites like the La Quemada Archaeological Zone, Zacatecas also boasts rich traditions and flavors.

Among these is one of its most emblematic treasures: mezcal. With 60 varieties within the state, this artisanal spirit is made from the Salmiana, Cenizo, and Azul agave plants, giving it a unique flavor that sets it apart from the rest of the country.

In Pinos and Teúl de González Ortega, two of the main mezcal-producing regions, this beverage is crafted using processes that combine heritage, technique, and passion. It is in Teúl de González Ortega that the Don Aurelio Lamas mezcal distillery is located, the creator of Don Aurelio mezcal, which won a gold medal at the Brussels World Competition.

Meanwhile, in Pinos, the work of master mezcal maker Don Antonio Briones stands out, recognized with numerous medals awarded by the magazine Cata a Cienas (Blind Tasting). In this Magical Town, you can also learn all about the artisanal distillation process at Hacienda La Pendencia, where visitors can experience each stage of production firsthand.

Likewise, in the southern part of the state—Jalpa, in the Caxcana region—is home to one of Mexico’s largest mezcal distilleries: Real de Jalpa. There, master mezcal makers craft young and aged mezcals that have won over palates both within and outside the country; among them, the popular Real de Jalpa mezcal stands out.

Zacatecas mezcal represents the soul of the state: its land, its people, and its heritage. Thus, Zacatecas invites you to discover its flavors, learn about its artisanal processes, and enjoy its unparalleled landscapes, where every sip tells a story.
