The state of Zacatecas has consolidated its position as one of the safest states in Mexico, remaining in tenth place with the lowest number of intentional homicides in the first five months of the year, according to data revealed by Marcela Figueroa Franco, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System (SNSP).

During the “People’s Morning” conference, led by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, it was reported that, between January and May 2025, 92 intentional homicides were recorded in Zacatecas, representing 0.9 percent of the national total.

Governor David Monreal Ávila reaffirmed these advances during the State Peacebuilding Roundtable, where he expressed that the state is moving “toward the consolidation of a peaceful Zacatecas, with well-being and progress.”

He emphasized his commitment to continuing the strategies that have positioned the state as a model to follow, such as strengthening the dignity of the police force, improving its training, infrastructure, and services, while promoting a comprehensive development model that benefits all communities.

The SNSP indicated that, according to statistics, Zacatecas ranks tenth nationally for the lowest incidence of intentional homicide, reflecting the success of the peacebuilding strategies implemented under the leadership of Governor David Monreal Ávila.

The report, based on data collected by the Attorney General’s Offices of the 32 states, indicates that the states with the highest incidence of intentional homicides are Guanajuato, Baja California, the State of Mexico, Chihuahua, Sonora, Guerrero, and Jalisco.

These seven states account for 51.6 percent of the homicides recorded in the country during the same period, with a national average of 336.47 victims.

The graph presented by the SNSP shows that, while states such as Guanajuato reported 1,435 victims (13.3 percent of the total), Zacatecas remains at a significantly lower level, with a rate of 0.9 percent.

This achievement is attributable to the pacification strategy promoted by the Peacebuilding Roundtable, which has strengthened collaboration between the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the State Police, and municipal police forces, resulting in a sustained reduction in violence.

Governor David Monreal Ávila emphasized that these advances in security have helped revitalize tourism, attract investment, and restore citizen confidence, transforming the state into a beacon of stability.
