The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Zacatecas announced that the 10 people found dead in the municipalities of Morelos, Pánuco, and Sain Alto have been identified, while investigations continue to clarify the homicides and arrest those responsible.
The agency specified that all the victims were men; eight were from Zacatecas and two were from the state of Durango. It also stated that the process of returning the bodies to their families is underway.
Who Are the Victims of the Violence in Zacatecas?
Among the identified victims are Ignacio Castrejón Valdez, businessman and former mayor of Sombrerete; Fidel Alvarado de la Torre, Secretary of Social Development for the Municipality of Fresnillo; and Andrés Vázquez Gurrola, former councilman of Canatlán, Durango.
Also identified were Armando Ledesma Aguirre and his son José Armando Ledesma Campos, both businessmen from Fresnillo; and Jesús Gerardo Muñetón Hernández, an active member of the Fresnillo Civil Protection and Fire Department.
The remaining victims were identified as Juan Carlos Berumen Guerrero, businessman and owner of Bar Las Mister; Fernando Robles de la Torre, a businessman in the construction industry; Jesús Daniel Rivera Sandoval, a businessman involved in organizing the Fresnillo Fair; and José Ángel Valdez Rivera, an agricultural producer and livestock leader from the municipality of Jiménez del Teúl.
Authorities Strengthen Security Measures
Earlier, Secretary General of Government Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza reported that the Operational Intelligence Group held an extraordinary meeting with the participation of state and federal authorities, including the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office, the National Intelligence Center, and the Judicial Branch of Zacatecas.
The official stated that the objective is to implement an enhanced security operation to locate those responsible and ensure that the case does not go unpunished.
He also noted that the Government of Mexico has reinforced the presence of Mexican Army and National Guard personnel in the state following these events.
Former Fresnillo Officials Mourned
Fresnillo Mayor Javier Torres Rodríguez confirmed the deaths of Fidel Alvarado de la Torre and Jesús Gerardo Muñetón Hernández, describing them as public servants who were deeply committed to the municipality.
“Fresnillo has lost two valuable men, dedicated to their work and to our people. Their memory will remain with us,” he wrote on social media.
Investigation Continues
The Attorney General’s Office reported that investigative efforts continue in coordination with the State Peacebuilding Council, the Security Cabinet of the Government of Mexico, the Fifth Military Region, and the National Guard Territorial Coordination, with the goal of solving the crime and bringing those responsible to justice.
