Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, and Jalisco are known recruitment hotspots for young people by organized crime; however, prevention measures have not yet been implemented, acknowledged Javier Espinoza Granados, advisor to the National Search System (SNB).
He explained that during these recruitment practices, young people are moved from one location to another, and many lose their lives during this journey.
“Forced recruitment is devastating families, and unfortunately, it has been detected that organized crime groups are lying in wait,” he emphasized.
For example, he detailed cases of young people recruited in Jalisco and found in Aguascalientes. “In 2025, a training center was located in Rincón de Romos, Aguascalientes, and four young people with missing persons reports were found there.”
The SNB advisor noted that while prevention measures have not yet been implemented, working groups are already being held in Zacatecas to develop them.
In this regard, he explained that they have detected that recruitment occurs through social media. “I don’t receive anything like that myself, but young people do, and these are the age groups that are the sole focus of [this type of practice].”
Therefore, the National Police Service (SNB) has asked people to remain vigilant on social media, “because it is the primary means of recruitment.”
