Juanita Tegualda Urrejola Pereira, a Chilean storyteller and physical theater specialist, will lead the workshop “The Art of Storytelling: Origin and Memory of Traditional Tales” in Zacatecas City.
Paola Rincón, a member of the Flores del Desierto collective and the storytelling forum, commented that the Chilean storyteller’s style is unique in the artistic world, employing her body language as a narrative resource on stage.
“She’s very physical, she uses gestures, she explores the narration of traditional tales, stories of nature and community unity […] watching her transports you to those places; even if she doesn’t speak, her gestures convey what she’s saying,” she explained.
This course, she added, is aimed at artistic creatives and the general public interested in this discipline, seeking to enrich the cultural offerings in the state through the exploration of new performing arts.
Registration for the workshops will cost 300 pesos and will be held in two sessions: the first on January 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and the second on February 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The venue will be the Wirikuta Room of the Zacatecas Museum, located on Doctor Hierro Street in the city center.
The forum’s schedule and other workshop details will be shared through the Permanent Forum of Oral Storytelling’s social media channels.
Paola Rincón recalled that they met the Chilean artist through storyteller César Rincón and an exceptional performance she gave in Mexico City. “That reinforced our desire for her to come and perform in Zacatecas and to take advantage of all her experience with the workshop,” she commented.
During her visit to the city, she will also offer a performance for adults at the Permanent Forum of Oral Storytelling, 2026 edition, although the date and venue are yet to be defined.
