The Trancoso Municipal Institute of Culture has announced the call for entries for the Second Matlachines Dance Encounter and Competition, which will take place on February 1st at the former hacienda grounds in the town center.

The event aims to promote the traditions and values of Trancoso, as well as recognize the effort and work of the dance companies in the region, reported Oralia López Chávez, director of the Municipal Institute of Culture.

This year, she explained, the event will follow the same format as last year, beginning with a parade, followed by a mass for the dancers, and finally, the competition.

“We called it an encounter so that companies can choose whether or not to participate in the competition,” she commented.

Oralia López indicated that a total of 30,000 pesos will be awarded to the winning companies, with prizes of 15,000, 10,000, and 5,000 pesos for the first three places, respectively.

Registration is free and will take place on the day of the event.

Participants, the municipal official explained, must bring a brief description of their dance and will have a maximum of 15 minutes for their performance. Judging will be based on aspects of identity and authenticity, such as costumes, performance, steps, and rhythm.

She recalled that nine dance companies from various municipalities in the region participated in the previous edition, so expectations are high for this year.

The complete competition rules can be found on the official social media accounts of the Trancoso City Hall.
