Yesterday afternoon, National Guard members were ambushed by armed civilians while patrolling a dirt road between Ciudad Cuauhtémoc and Genaro Codina, in the state of Zacatecas. National Guard personnel repelled the attack, causing the attackers to disperse.

Following the confrontation, additional forces arrived at the scene, including officers from the Ciudad Cuauhtémoc Municipal Police and personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).

As a result of the confrontation, one National Guard member was injured and transported by land to the Rincón de Romos General Hospital in Aguascalientes, where he was stabilized. He was later transferred by helicopter to the Centenario Miguel Hidalgo Hospital for specialized care.

In Zacatecas, authorities confirmed the arrest of a hitman, as well as the seizure of weapons, magazines, live rounds, and ballistic vests. In addition, the death of one of the perpetrators was reported.

Given the possibility that members of the attacking group might attempt to escape to Aguascalientes, officers from the State Police, the State Attorney General’s Office, and municipal forces conducted patrols in the surrounding areas.

Two helicopters from the Zacatecas State Public Security Secretariat participated in the operation. Authorities continue their investigation to clarify the events and ensure security in the region.
