Armed Group Robs Four Families of Their Vehicles and Belongings in Zacatecas

An armed group robbed four families and took their vehicles and belongings while they were traveling along Federal Highway 70, on the border between Zacatecas and Aguascalientes, on a stretch connecting the municipalities of Jalpa and Calvillo.

Following the incident, authorities reported that security would be reinforced in the border area between the two states.

According to the report, the incident occurred near the community of La Higuera, when the criminals blocked the victims’ path as they were traveling through southern Zacatecas.

Armed Group Takes Vehicles From Four Families in Zacatecas

Authorities explained that, through threats with firearms, the attackers forced the travelers to get out of their pickup trucks in order to take the vehicles, cell phones, and valuables, leaving the victims stranded on foot.

The affected families walked and requested assistance from other motorists to travel toward the State Police checkpoint located in Jaltiche, in the municipality of Calvillo. There, authorities provided them with assistance and protection.

Following the report, security forces deployed to rural areas and neighboring roads in an attempt to locate those responsible and recover the stolen vehicles.

Authorities Respond to Robbery of Families in Zacatecas

Meanwhile, the municipal president of Jalpa, Olegario Viramontes, issued a message to citizens in which he acknowledged the events in the region.

In a statement, the municipal president of Huanusco, Julieta Camacho, said that she arranged for the presence of federal security forces and that they were prepared to accompany citizens in filing complaints arising from acts of violence by organized crime in the area.

Following the events, security forces reinforced their presence in the border area with the state of Aguascalientes. So far, there have been no reports of the vehicles being located or of any arrests.
