Civil weddings in the state of Zacatecas are now more expensive

Getting married in a civil ceremony in some of Zacatecas’s main municipalities is more expensive this year, following the fee increase announced by the Civil Registry offices.

The increases affect ceremonies held at municipal offices as well as those performed at home or other external venues.

In most cases, authorities indicated that the adjustments are due to the increase in the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), as well as operational costs related to travel and after-hours service.

Arcelia Jazmín de la Torre Espinoza, an official at the Civil Registry office in the municipality of Zacatecas, stated that the city council sought to keep fees close to last year’s levels.

Only adjustments proportional to the increase in the UMA (Unit of Measurement and Update) were registered, with the goal of not severely impacting citizens’ finances. Arcelia Jazmín de la Torre Espinoza, Civil Registry Officer for the municipality of Zacatecas, specified that getting married at the municipal hall costs 992 pesos, an amount that includes the application and official forms.

When the couple decides to hold the ceremony at home or another venue, the cost rises to 4,414 pesos. The official explained that this fee includes staff travel expenses, fees, and transportation costs.

Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., due to daily cash register closings and the requirement for prepayment at municipal windows.

In Fresnillo, Civil Registry Officer Blanca Marina Trejo reported that an adjustment to marriage fees was also applied due to the increase in the UMA.

The official told this publication that the ceremony at the office costs 1,089 pesos.

For weddings at home, he explained that the price will depend on the distance and the requested date. Up to 15 kilometers, the fee will be 4,786 pesos; for homes located more than 15 kilometers away, the charge increases to 5,138 pesos.

He added that on Sundays and holidays the cost will be 5,373 pesos, although subject to availability in the official schedule.

In Jerez, the Civil Registry official, Oscar Iván Esquivel Acosta, reported that all services registered an increase of approximately 4% this year.

He specified that the time required to complete each procedure can vary, depending on the type of service requested and the documentation submitted by the users.

Regarding marriages, he detailed that getting married at the office costs 660 pesos. If the ceremony takes place in the urban area, the price will be 3,325 pesos, while in rural communities it rises to 3,965 pesos.

The main requirements established by these municipalities for civil marriage are being of legal age and presenting recent birth certificates for both parties, in original and copy.

Official photo identification, a premarital medical certificate, proof of attendance at premarital counseling sessions, and a completed application form are also required.

In specific cases, a certificate of single status must be presented if either party was born in another municipality or state. If either party has been previously married, a divorce or death certificate is required, as applicable.

Additionally, for individuals 70 years of age or older, a medical certificate of mental capacity may be required, according to the guidelines of each civil registry office.
