The mayor of Zacatecas, Miguel Varela, paid a working visit to the city of McAllen to formalize a sister city agreement that will strengthen cultural, economic, and social ties between the two communities.

The visit took place at the invitation of McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos and the Mexican Consul in that city, Froylán Yescas Cedillo, with whom this international cooperation agreement was finalized. The agreement aims to generate new opportunities for exchange and collaboration between Zacatecas and South Texas.

During his stay, the mayor emphasized that this sister city relationship represents an opportunity to promote joint projects in cultural activities, tourism, economic development, and strengthening ties with the Zacatecan migrant community residing in that region of the United States.

As part of the visit’s activities, exhibitors from Zacatecas are participating in the MXLAN International Economic Summit & Festival, an event that brings together cultural, gastronomic, and artistic expressions from Mexico and has become one of the most important binational gatherings on the border.

At this event, producers and cultural promoters from Zacatecas have the opportunity to showcase the state’s rich cultural and gastronomic heritage, as well as strengthen the state’s presence with international audiences and generate new opportunities for promotion and sales.

The mayor emphasized that these actions are part of a strategy to expand development opportunities for the state. “We continue to strengthen relationships that allow our producers to reach new markets, forge cultural and academic ties, and promote Zacatecas as the cultural capital of Mexico,” he stated.

He also announced that, as part of this collaboration, the city of McAllen will participate in the Sister Cities Festival, which will take place in Zacatecas from August 14 to 16. This international meeting continues to attract cities interested in becoming part of this space for cultural, tourist and economic exchange.
