A strong security operation continues this Thursday in the municipality of Villanueva, in Zacatecas, after the confrontation between antagonistic groups of organized crime that left three people dead.
The aggression took place in the downtown area, behind the municipal market, in a property known as “El Vado”. Residents alerted the authorities after hearing multiple firearm detonations.
According to the Secretary General of Government, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, it was an armed clash between members of rival criminal groups. An abandoned cherry-colored vehicle was also located at the scene.
“In the municipality of Villanueva there was a confrontation between members of antagonistic groups of organized crime, where three armed civilians, unfortunately, lost their lives,” Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, Secretary General of Government.
Are there any detainees in Villanueva?
Authorities from the three levels of government deployed a strong security operation, intensifying patrols in the area to find those responsible. So far, no arrests have been reported.
“The Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Ministry of Public Security, the Attorney General’s Office of the state and the Republic are already in the area to reinforce security, to reinforce the municipality of Villanueva in an operation that aims to find those responsible,” Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, Secretary General of Government.
Villanueva is considered a disputed territory between criminal cells, which has generated recurrent confrontations. At the end of January, state police were attacked with explosives in the town of Tayahua, belonging to the same municipality.
Security forces are maintaining a large deployment in the region while investigations continue.
