Following its outstanding participation in the 2025 Tourism Fair, the Government of Zacatecas, through the State System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (SEDIF), in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism (Secturz) and the Zacatecas Institute of Culture (IZC) “Ramón López Velarde,” has launched a management tour to determine the guest state of honor for the 2025 Zacatecas Day of the Dead Festival.

The state administration, led by Governor David Monreal Ávila, is making progress with preparations for this celebration, which has established itself as one of the most emblematic and highly anticipated events on the national calendar.

This festival represents a deeply rooted artistic and cultural expression and has positioned itself as one of the most prominent events in the country, centered around this ancient Mexican tradition.

Established as a meeting place for cultures, the Day of the Dead Festival has evolved with each edition, attracting thousands of visitors and reaffirming its character as a national mosaic of identity and memory.

This 2025, the festival will elevate its cultural offering with the now-traditional special invitation to a state that shares the symbolic richness of the Day of the Dead.

SEDIF’s honorary president, Sara Hernández Campa, through the Organizing Committee, has evaluated the various possibilities derived from the efforts presented during the Mexican Tourist Market, held in the state of Baja California.

Héctor Alejandro Pesci Delgado, general coordinator of the Festival, reported that work is currently underway to select and present the project to the prospective states; Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas, and Mexico City are the leading candidates, thanks to their deep historical, artistic, and ritual roots in the celebration of the dead.

In previous editions, states such as San Luis Potosí and Michoacán enriched the festival with their traditions of Xantolo and Noche de Ánimas, respectively, receiving a warm response from citizens and visitors.

“We seek to continue positioning Zacatecas as a cultural center of national and international significance, where the most representative expressions of the Day of the Dead from across the country converge. The interest and response of the people have been key to this celebration’s continued growth year after year,” emphasized Pesci Delgado.

As part of the tribute to the states that have participated in previous editions, the Zacatecas 2025 Day of the Dead Parade will include floats dedicated to San Luis Potosí and Michoacán, to reaffirm their legacy within the festival and celebrate the diversity of Mexican traditions.

With an inclusive vision and a firm commitment to promoting Mexico’s living culture, the 2025 Zacatecas Day of the Dead Festival is preparing to continue making history and projecting the state as a focal point for the nation’s intangible heritage to the world.
