Travel Agencies and Tour Operators advertise Zacatecas as a tourist destination

Tourism service providers and hoteliers seek to remove the bad perception of insecurity that prevails in the region.

By disseminating the attractions of Zacatecas, the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV) seeks to“remove the perception of insecurity” that continues to affect the state’s tourism sector.

The president of the AMAV, Zacatecas delegation, Jorge Enrique Martínez García, announced that on Friday, March 22, a familiarization trip (Fam-Trip) will begin in which 40 travel agencies from neighboring states will participate.

“One of the purposes of the Association is to promote incoming tourism and above all to remove the perception of insecurity, now that insecurity rates have decreased considerably in our state,” declared the union leader.

He added that with this event that will take place from March 22 to 24, “the aim is to give that confidence so that tourists can come to Zacatecas and learn about the already consolidated and new products.”

According to the National Statistical Information System of the Tourism Sector of Mexico (Datatur), in 2023 Zacatecas suffered the largest drop in annual hotel occupancy of the main 70 tourist destinations in the country, with a reduction of 13.6% compared to the year previous.

Jorge Enrique Martínez insisted on the importance of private initiatives collaborating with the government so that tourists “know what is being done in Zacatecas and, above all, remove that negative perception.”

Therefore, for the Fam-Trip that will take place in the state capital and in the magical towns of Guadalupe and Jerez, there is support from the Ministry of Tourism, the Zacatecano Institute of Culture, and the municipal presidencies.

On the part of the private sector, in addition to the AMAV, the Association of Hotels and Motels of Zacatecas participates, as well as companies that have tourist products such as the La Bufa zip line and the Campo Real Winery.

The event will bring together representatives of travel agencies from the states of San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Mexico City, Guanajuato, and Durango. The president of the AMAV pointed out that these entities represent the most important market due to their geographical proximity.
