Zacatecas.- The governor of Zacatecas, David Monreal Ávila, and a group of Zacatecans were stranded in Acapulco, Guerrero, as they were participating in the International Mining Convention.

Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, general secretary of the state government, this afternoon confirmed through a video that this week the governor, along with Rodrigo Castañeda, secretary of Economy, as well as another group of public servants, attended said convention that would end next Friday .

However, given the devastating impact of Hurricane “Otis” and the fact that due to the impact on all communication channels in Acapulco there was no contact with the governor, it was until after noon that they managed to have communication with the governor and his team, who are well and under shelter waiting for the hurricane to finish degrading.

Rodrigo Reyes mentioned that relatives of several Zacatecan people who were stranded in that entity have begun to establish contact with the General Secretariat of the Government of Zacatecas, he even called on those who have a relative stranded in Acapulco to contact the state government to try to provide them support.

Among the Zacatecans who were stranded is Raymundo Ceja, an information technology specialist, who was also participating in the convention, who has managed to maintain updated information, because he carries his satellite equipment.

Through his social networks it shows that “everything is destroyed”, at least, in his post published at 2:47 p.m. this Wednesday, Raymundo Ceja also reports that they remain incommunicado:

“Until this moment everyone is still without connectivity. It is impossible to communicate with anyone in Acapulco, through the cellular network or by telephone. The climate has improved, but the worst part is that all the waste generated, which is abundant, is collected. And I think it will take days. I am aware that at this time it is not possible to travel from Acapulco to Mexico, since the road is closed due to the overflowing of a river. “Right now what hurts the most is the human condition.”

In the images he posts you can see how all the tourists who were in one of the hotels have set up the hotel as a shelter and are on many stretchers.

Students and teachers of the University of Guanajuato are stranded

A group of 77 students and teachers from the Department of Mines, Metallurgy and Geology of the University of Guanajuato (UG) were stranded in Acapulco, Guerrero, waiting for the situation to improve to return to this entity.

The UG reported that the students and academic staff “are well, safe and waiting for optimal conditions to return to Guanajuato.”

They traveled to Acapulco to participate in the XXXV International Mining Convention, which takes place from October 23 to 27.

“Due to the damage caused by Hurricane ‘Otis’, which keeps communication routes affected, contact is made with a part of the group that traveled to Guerrero, who confirmed that they are in a hotel.

The institution established contact with the families of students and teachers. We are waiting for the competent authorities to confirm that safe conditions exist so that their transfer to their homeland can be coordinated.

Chihuahuas are also stranded

At least 12 students from the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) and at least 30 more from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (UACH) are stranded in Acapulco, Guerrero, after the passage of Hurricane Otis.

The UACJ reported that until this afternoon they have followed up on the situation of 12 students and two teachers who were attending the International Mining Convention that was held in said city from October 23 to 27.

During the early morning they confirmed that they were all fine and reunited at their headquarters hotel. Communication with them has been partial due to the problems generated by Hurricane Otis.

As for those from the UACH, Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván commented this day that they are also safe and that the state authorities are working on coordinating their return, once the airport reopens its operations and they can travel to the state of Chihuahua.
