Traffic police officers in Zacatecas were exposed after a video surfaced showing them drinking alcohol in the courtyard of their headquarters, allegedly with the participation of their director.

The Traffic Police confirmed the authenticity of the video, which dates back to December 11, 2025, while the Zacatecas State Public Administration Secretariat launched a formal investigation.

According to a statement released by the agency, the officers participated in a “toast” in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe. However, those involved appear in uniform and next to an official patrol car, although the agency maintains that they “were not on duty” at the time of the incident.

The video, recorded by other officers, reveals that this practice was recurring and that the Traffic Police Director himself, Oswaldo Caldera, appears in the footage distributing drinks to his subordinates.

“And yes, they have also arrived with alcohol on their breath at situations where their presence is warranted,” denounced Verónica Trujillo, the journalist who publicized the initial complaint.

The Ministry of Public Administration reported that the investigations seek to identify all the officers involved in order to apply the corresponding administrative sanctions.

Furthermore, it urged the Ministry of Public Security to open a parallel investigation so that the behavior of some officers does not affect the image or the functioning of the entire force.

“What you see is brutal… you lose trust in the institutions, you lose respect for the institutions, and you lose hope that we can build an orderly society,” declared Ernesto González, the state’s Secretary of Public Administration. Citizens point to the Zacatecas Traffic Police as one of the agencies most associated with acts of corruption in the state, which has generated greater public scrutiny in light of this new scandal.
